Shifting Sands

When I was a child, my concept of heaven was highly literal. I always had the view of a big space, in the fluffy white clouds, with my family and friends. I could play all day and eat whatever I wanted. As I grew up, however, my concept of heaven became less literal, most likely because I’ve grown to accept the unknowable and complex. It’s still a very bright place, but it’s much more mysterious and ever-changing. Most of all, it is a place filled with love. Not necessarily with the people or things that I love, although they can certainly appear (remember, this is an ever-evolving creation). But simply with the essence of that feeling that constricts your chest, makes your heart beat fast, and gives you hope.
