My Guilty Psychic Secret

Wednesday, 30. November 2011 8:33

I’m very embarrassed about this, but I was once marketed as a powerful psychic by a friend of mine who is involved with a spiritualist church and various other paranormal activities.  I, of course, have never believed in such things, but according to her testing I was extremely proficient, and weak-willed as I am I agreed to attend meetings and give readings to members of the public if only to prove to her that I was not gifted in the way that she believed.  Oddly though, my level of accuracy was very high, and I quit before we started making any serious money because I felt guilty for exploiting the silliness of others.

The American Solution

Thursday, 24. November 2011 7:32

I wish that all countries were self sufficient, at least to some degree.  I am not unmoved by the plight that other human beings are in, I simply wish that they had the means to rectify some of their predicaments more independently.  The constant flow of money that our government devotes to other countries is staggering.  It seems like the priority should be to take care of our own first and foremost, then assist where able.  The United States has plenty of homeless, jobless, starving citizens of its own.  Why are they overlooked so easily?  They deserve the attention and resources that our government provides to foreigners.  They are entitled to it much more; it should not even be a question.  We allow many of them to make America their home and assist them greatly in getting started too.  I don’t approve of that either.

The Highlight of the Month!

Monday, 21. November 2011 6:55

I always look forward to the days when my partner and I get paid.  Rather a boring answer perhaps, but these are the best days of the month because we feel we have the freedom to do something special.  Sometimes we go on a date, or get something special in for dinner, or go to the cinema.  Other times we just enjoy the fact that we don’t have to worry about money for a few days!  These are the times when we visit friends and buy ourselves little treats, so they are generally the brightest and happiest days that we share.

Another Weekend in My Life

Friday, 18. November 2011 5:35

I don’t normally do much on the weekend, since my partner works all week and it gives me a chance to spend time with her.  We also don’t have much money to go out to places so we generally enjoy quiet days at home in one another’s company.  This weekend was a little different as I travelled to the town where I was born to visit my parents and some of my friends, whom I get to see all too little of these days!  Unfortunately I spent rather a lot of the day waiting for trains, as the timetables were a bit unreliable.

One Wish for the World

Tuesday, 15. November 2011 4:46

It’s quite a big ask for one wish, but I’d probably insist on a world free of national borders and all forms of discrimination, with people who care about their society and not just about their immediate circle.  I would also like to see a populace more educated in the way their society works so they cannot be so easily taken advantage of by politicians, corporations and advertisers.  In other words, a single global nation with a population capable of running it selflessly and intelligently.  I think the ‘single thing’ I would change would be to increase the intelligence and knowledge base of everyone.  Knowledge is power, so it should be distributed equally.

About fire retardant spray

Sunday, 13. November 2011 6:39

Fire retardant spray is used to reduce the fire risk from normally inflammable materials such as wood or fabric. This is one of the fire prevention strategies used to reduce the risk from fire in buildings, personal or occupational clothing. Fire prevention is classified as class A, B etc. based on the effectiveness of the fire preventive material used. These materials would slow the spread of fire and requires higher temperature to catch fire once sprayed on to normal wood or fabric, there by rendering them less susceptible to the fire risk. Fire retardant sprays are used in doors, windows, furniture, paneling, tapestry, paperboard etc. made out of normally combustible materials to render them inert to fire. Once coated with the spray, such materials will be reduced to ash by the high heat without burning. One of the important properties for use of such materials in public buildings or homes is that the material used in the fire retardant spray should not emit any toxic substances due to high heat encountered in fire.

My Taste in Music

Thursday, 10. November 2011 3:45

My musical taste is strongly influenced by that of my father.  We share a lot of music including blues, rock, folk and indie/alternative.  My favourite genre is probably folk-rock, as it brings together the nostalgic evocation and lyrical mastery of folk music with the energy and relevance of modern musical styles.  I cannot stand rap/hip-hop music, a genre which does not seem to have evolved or improved one iota in the past three decades.  It’s ugly and abrasive, and mostly highly derivative and lazy.  There are the odd exceptions (such as a few tracks by Faithless), but in general I write it off completely.

My Longest Journey

Monday, 7. November 2011 2:42

It’s always a little embarrassing to try to discuss one’s own strengths, but I am confident that my linguistic abilities are very good, and as well as proofreading for all my friends I am a highly ranked Boggle player.  I am a friendly, quiet and empathetic person which means that people value me as a friend.  I am intelligent and rationalistic and am not tempted to subscribe to beliefs or commit to uncertain inductive ‘knowledge’.  I am generally very unhappy with my appearance, but my eyes and particularly my eyelashes which are unusually long and full for a boy receive compliments occasionally.
So far, the furthest from home I have been is the Asian side of Turkey.  My friend and I have undertaken a long term quest to visit the sites of the seven wonders of the ancient world (all situated around the Mediterranean), and a visit to Turkey allowed us to pick up two of these in one trip, The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus and the Temple of Artemis near Ephesus.  My friend is something of an ancient history buff, so I am learning a lot on these trips, at least one of which will take me even further from home to modern day Iraq.

If Only I Had $1000 to Spare!

Thursday, 3. November 2011 1:15

If I suddenly found myself with a spare $1000 and could choose only on place to spend it, it would naturally be Amazon.  Since moving in with my partner and committing most of our finances to the cost of living, our upcoming wedding and my study costs, there are quite a few DVDs, games, music albums and books I have been meaning to get but never had the extra money.  With that much money, I would also buy dice for my dice collection and a new camera, as I have always wanted a good camera and I take lots of pictures!
